From getting the grant to designing the mural to choosing colours and getting the materials to finally painting four panels (each 4 by 8 feet) my students went above and beyond these past few months helping me bring this project to life 🎨🖌️ I'm not going to lie - this was initially a horrifying undertaking. I'd never facilitated a project this huge and I'd never painted a mural - I questioned my ability as an artist and teacher. I didn't think I could be the leader necessary for this project. There was a crippling amount of self doubt, to the point where I just wish this mural would disappear. I also didn't think we could pull it off in the time frame allotted, while staying on top of everything else we do in the classroom. But we did it, and it was a beautiful team effort. My students inspired me every single day.
This mural will soon hang on the walls of Clifford Bowey PS here in Ottawa (appropriately located on Kitchener Ave!) and I know that when my students look up at it in September at the ribbon cutting ceremony they will feel nothing but pride. Art is magic. It touches the soul and it lives forever. I'm blessed to have been able to give my grade 9s and 10s the opportunity to create something so meaningful this year. I think they went out with a bang! 💓🙏🏳️🌈🌎🎉 #artheals #paintwithpurpose #bestjob
