What is cancer exactly?
How did it get into my body?
Why did it choose me?
These are some of the questions you’re likely to ask when you hear #thosethreewords
“You have cancer”.
Which is why it’s important that you find answers to these questions to aid you on your journey to beating cancer.
So let’s break these down:
1. What is cancer?
The human body is made up of cells (around 30-40 TRILLION) which these cells grow and divide all the time to make new cells as and when your body needs them, like for example when cells grow old or become damaged.
That’s what should happen, but this isn’t always the case. Sometimes genetic changes interfere with this orderly process and yep, you guessed it, cancer begins.
These abnormal cells start to grow uncontrollably and form a tumour which can either be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
2. How did it get into your body?
Well technically the potential for getting cancer was already into your body because you are human being who is made up of cells.
But you were just unfortunate that these cells decided to become interfered with and caused cancer to occur.
What this also means is that each and everyone of us has the potential of getting cancer.
3. Why did it choose me?
Whilst cancer did choose you, you too also chose it. Genetic defects account for 20% of cancers meaning you too are at risk of getting cancer if you haven’t already.
But the other 80%? These are down to you and your lifestyle choices:
Living a sedentary lifestyle
Eating processed foods
All increase your risk of getting cancer each and every day.
But all of these choices? They were in your control to begin with.
No more forced a cigarette or a drink in your hand but you!
Therefore, you must take responsibility for the lifestyle factors you make each and every day.
Which starts with making positive changes today, right here, right now.
Don’t be the cause of your own cancer.
