Seit nun ziemlich genau einem Monat habe ich meine Beine nun nicht mehr trainiert. Durch meine wieder auftretende Knieverletzung, ist das Beintraining für mich wieder undenkbar geworden. Selbst das Treppensteigen ist bereits mit erheblichen Schmerzen verbunden.

Vor 1,5 Jahren bin ich an dem Knie bereits einmal operiert worden, doch die Beschwerden sind nie vollständig weg gewesen. Daher bin ich nun leider wieder in Behandlung und hoffe, ja bete dafür, dass mein Knie endlich wieder vollkommen schmerzfrei wird.

Vor etwa zwei Wochen habe ich nun auch generell mein vorerst letztes Workout gemacht und lege nun eine Pause ein. Denn auch meine Ellenbogen bereiten mir Schmerzen und ich habe gelernt bei sowas unbedingt auf den Körper zu hören!

Ich hoffe sehr, dass ich diesen Sport nicht ganz an den Nagel hängen muss und ich bald wieder mit voller Leidenschaft trainieren kann.

Dass ich aus gesundheitlichen Gründen einmal mit dem Training aufhören muss, war immer eine albtraumhafte Vorstellung von mir, die nun Wirklichkeit werden könnte.

Daher: hört auf euren Körper und gebt ihm Zeit und Ruhe, wenn er es braucht!

It was 2016 when I took on my first solo Beast.

It was early spring in New Jersey and I'll never forget waking up at 5am to a dark and stormy morning.

Every part of me wanted to stay in bed - especially without the motivation of someone to run with. That was probably the first time I successfully convinced myself to be THAT uncomfortable alone.

I remember getting to the venue and quietly getting my gear together in the lodge. I even went and bought overpriced gloves there because I didn't realize how cold and wet it was going to be.

And anyone that ran the Saturday NJ Beast in 2016 knows just how much that race sucked.

It was 45 degrees and down pouring the entire time. Everybody was miserable and I saw more than one person crying on the course.

That race transformed me that year, because up until then I had always had the comfort of a race partner - and there was something about being alone out there, especially in those elements, that was so mentally liberating that it started my journey into wanting to find the most uncomfortable situations to put myself in.

I got hypothermia shortly after this picture, because the dunk wall was at the very end and chilled everybody to their bone.

I remember shaking uncontrollably in the changing tent, not even able to untie my shoes, alongside 20 other women with exactly the same issue.

I know it's weird to some people to talk about how miserable these races can get, how putting yourself in those situations just doesn't look appealing to most, but there is an entire group of us that feels alive after we emerge from those dark, damp places -

Because they help us to appreciate the comfortable even more.

To everybody taking on Jersey this weekend, remember just how lucky you are to be apart of that crazy little group who finds life in the uncomfortable.

I had a great leg day yesterday. Focused on heavy movements following a 5x5 set-up for squats, good-mornings, hack squats, and hip thrusts.💪 I finished up with some weighted hyperextensions which I have been LOVING recently. -

2-4 T almond milk
2 T maple syrup 
1/4 tsp vanilla extract .
Blend all ingredients together in a high speed blender. Taste & adjust sweetness as needed.

Banana, sliced
Granola

A busy day calls for a morning workout!

If you’ve been following me for a while you would know I hate morning workouts... I feel weak and hungry BUT sometimes you have to get it in where you can!

The same people that will tell you that you need to lose weight or gain weight, will be the same ones who will try and derail you & tempt you with unhealthy foods or tell you that you dont need to go to the gym when they see you making progress & how disciplined you are. They will also be the same people to then ask you for advice later on “how you did it”! A little introspection goes a long way.

One of the most difficult things a person can do is look inward and ask the question: "How am I contributing to the outcome?..." The outcome that you want, or don't want.

This is where I have to play detective.

I'm looking for clues.

Clues that determine why I do the things I do, and what sort of outcome manifests because of it.

This works well with relationships. It's also effective in determining how your daily routine may be sabotaging you.

You want to feel healthy, awake, alert, and alive.

But how can you do that if you're not sleeping. Not drinking water consistently through the day. Spending too much time in a slouched position staring at a screen for 9 hours a day.

Introspection can uncover these areas of your life. Recognizing them and how they effect your life is the first step to changing them.

The only reason to change is to create a different outcome.

It's strategic. It's outcome based and process focused.

Life gets a little better when we get introspective and take some measure of control.

This begins the process of managing outcomes that are within your control instead of being a victim to circumstance.

This type of intentional self-detective work can be applied to diet and exercise too.

You probably had a feeling that' where I was going with this.

If it’s too much, too fast, it can have a reverse effect.

We tend to progress in small incremental steps.

It can be overwhelming to try and work out consistently, while also changing your entire diet, and trying to mitigate stress, and get enough sleep, and meditate, and do yoga, and go to the grocery store, and work, and raise kids, etc.

It can be too much.

You might try instead to address the "easy stuff" first.

Getting an extra 20-30 minutes of sleep.

Try that for a week, see how it goes.

Drink an extra glass of water per day. 
Try that for a week and see how it goes.

Eat a protein-rich breakfast for a week, see how it goes.

Then, once you've included these items into your life and it establishes itself as the new normal, you can incorporate some exercise.

Something really small and doable at first.

Once that's easy, you do a little more, and so on.

This is usually how one tiny healthy behavior can snowball and radically transform someone’s health and well-being.

It starts with a subtle tweak.

1% better every day.

Then, over time, those subtle tweaks compound and multiply.
