Lavendula angustifolia 'Hidcote' / English Lavender / The best Lavender 😜🤫 so happy to have some L. angustifolia goodness back in my garden.💜 I literally douse my pillow in Lavender essential oil every night, it's been almost a lifelong bedtime tradition. Earl grey & lavender oil = nature's diazepam 🤤😴 but without all the nasty, ofc, and the comparison drawn between diazepam and bergamot actually has some sturdy scientific backing to it. If you want a good read while sipping your earl grey :
-
"previous study showed that Bergamot essential oil significantly increased gamma-aminobutyric acid levels in rat hippocampus, suggesting potential anxiolytic properties." (Link below)

Lavender ' Hidcote ' .
The English Lavender .
Hidcote is probably the best lavender for colour with its deep purple -blue flower heads. But it's also the best for its scent due to it having higher levels of camphor than other varieties. Pollinators can't stay away from it either !! 🐝🦋
Great for cooking, teas and lotions, lavender hidcote is a versatile plant that has many uses.
Tie some fresh cut stems around a tea light glass and wait for the perfume !! As the oils in the lavender heat up, it will slowly release a calming aroma around the room that relaxes and de stresses your environment. You could also tie some in bundles and hang them upsidown in the kitchen or hallway and get a welcoming waft when you arrive home at the end of a stressful day !! GROWING TIPS :
* DON'T over feed lavender. You can kill it by over fertilizing !! At the beginning of the season , in the spring, add a fresh layer of good compost, one to two inches deep, to the base of your plant ( on top of the pot !) and that will supply enough nutrients to last the plant the whole year !!
* Lavenders LOVE the sun. So plant them in a nice warm , dry , sunny spot .
* DON'T over water them. People often tell me they lost theirs . More often than not, its due to over watering . Lavenders love free draining soil and will tolerate poor ground . When planting, mix a little horticultural grit or sand into your chosen growing medium and when it comes to watering, allow your plant to dry out before its next shower !! * When clipping and removing dead heads, dont go below the flower stems. Cutting back too far into the leafy wooded part of the lavender could send it into shock and it could take a long time to recover . Just clip it back to the 'hummock' or natural mound shape of the plant where the stems finish.
Thats about it really . Happy Lavenders 😊
