The Outside Eye... Are you going low enough?
Are you going down slowly?
Are you pausing at the bottom?
Great questions to accurately perform an exercise, but you need to know the circumstances of the individual. A lower foot position may be used to overload the quads, but this depends on a person’s ankle mobility.
There’s no point making someone do a squat because you have labelled it as essential. If they can’t do it, what’s the point?
For example one of my clients has arthritis in their hip so they can only go down to a certain level before it locks and causes agony, so from the outside looking in, they might think that person is doing it wrong but rather, we areadapting it so we can strengthen the legs to some degree to prevent further pain from body imbalances.
Personal training is meant to be Personal to the INDIVIDUAL. No one can do the exact same thing as everyone else because our bodies are all different. If your struggling with an exercise, consider if you need to tweak the exercise for your body’s mechanic. If you need help with this consider personal training so that the guess work is taken out for you. To see the full blog post go to www.lukerichardsonfitness/blog
