** No-Spoiler Review Post**
5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ For Cabal, 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐ for the book in its entirety.
This is the first book of Clive Barker's that I've read and I didnt realize that the book of Cabal includes the story of Cabal, as well as 4 other short stories: The Life of Death, How Spoilers Bleed, Twilight at the Towers, and The Last Illusion. I later found out that most of these stories can be found in the books of blood volumes. .
That being said, The actual story of Cabal was amazing. It had twists I didnt expect, it was well written, I loved the characters, and it was very creepy. The nightbreed monsters were very cool. It's well worth the read! I also really loved the story that immediately followed it, The Life of Death for many of the same reasons. Both of those stories I would definitely rate 5 stars. .
The last three stories, however... I didnt care for. I liked the idea of the stories, but to me they weren't executed as well as the first two stories. I didnt care about the characters, and because of this, I often got confused about who they were. The last two stories felt jumbled and I found myself skimming them to get to the end. .
I still dont know how I feel about Clive Barker's work because these stories were so polarizing for me. 🤔🤷♀️ I'm going to have to read more eventually to find out...
